Golden State Garage Sale
Garage sales are great for cleaning out your closets and generating some cash, right? Well, it's not just your pack rat neighbor who thinks so.
Marketplace reports that the state of California is holding its own statewide sell-off called The Great California Garage Sale to get rid of old and unneeded items like unused police motorcycles and confiscated stolen jewelry — and to hopefully make some money. But like that pill-y sweater you love, that your spouse is making you get rid of but has no takers, the state is also trying to unload some items of questionable value like "eight fortune teller machines that the DMV has had for decades, old dusty pianos from state parks, and dental chairs from prisons," according to KABC News.
How much will the garage sale actually go towards drawing down the state's mountainous debt? Not much, says UCLA economist Jerry Nickelsburg. But Maria will probably be happy enough to get rid of Arnold's old barcalounger.
