Dell Maps Out Corporate Responsibility Agenda
PC maker Dell is an ambitious company, both in the computing sector and when it comes to being a leader in making the world a better place.
Its corporate responsibility report for this year declares it's aiming to be the greenest technology company on the planet, and the focus in inspiring and innovating.
Just check out the actual report, which lists out some laudable accomplishments toward its collective goals. Dell has created the Dell YouthConnect program to expand computing among youths in third world countries, improved its recycling and carbon footprint, provided $24.5 million in global giving efforts and $2.5 million in US grants, and even landed, for the first time ever, on the top 100 "best companies" cited by Working Mother.
The report (PDF), which maps out everything from electricity use to air pollutants in operations, also notes that 36 percent of Dell's nearly 79,000 employees are active in volunteer work.
In terms of sustainable operations goals, the to-do list agenda is just as impressive. It's looking to do everything from improving packaging recycling to 75 percent and aims to reuse or recycle 99 percent of waste from manufacturing operations by 2012.
"Corporate responsibility is more than a business initiative. It’s a commitment to our customers, employees and other stakeholders about how we choose to operate in a global economy," states the 48-page report.
As a press release noted, the expanded agenda even required Dell to expand its online corporate responsibility section, nearly by triple the number of Web pages.
