E-publisher Does a Bit of Good While Doing BusinessBy Judy Mottl | Friday, October 30, 2009 1:07 PM ET E-literacy is gaining ground even beyond the e-reader mania hitting the electronics industry, and new technologies and services will soon propel e-reading into mainstream America faster than most realize. And some companies are managing to do a little good beyond just marketing their products. One is ebrary, a digital content product and tech provider, which has launched a new program that lets libraries, businesses and groups share literary suggestions while potentially winning e-books for their organization. Ebrary offers more than 170,000 digital books, handbooks, reports, maps, journals and other valuable content from over 350 publishers under subscription, purchase and usage-based models. Additionally, ebrary provides e-publishing services for distributing PDF content online, whether internally or housed on ebrary servers. The e-publisher is holding a monthly sweepstakes where you can win a Perpetual Access digital book, map, handbook or report. Entry requires making a suggestion using a simple online form about a current ebrary title and there's no limit on how many recommendations you can make. "Essentially, ebrary wants to have fun with content and enable organizations to collaborate on their content needs through shared recommendations and input," said Kevin Sayar, president of ebrary, in a press statement. "We look forward to extending this program to libraries, corporations, and the faculty and end-users they serve." The first title giveaway, "Say It Like Obama: The Power of Speaking with Purpose and Vision," by Shelly Leane (McGraw-Hill, 2008) will happen on December 1.
