Every Hit Helps Hunger
At next week's Major League Baseball All-Star Game, the National League and American League will send its best players to compete against one another in the 80th Midsummer Classic. This year, those All-Stars will have an additional incentive to get hits. The Bank of America Charitable Foundation will give $5,000 to Feeding America for every base hit.
The foundation recently gave a $1 million donation to the hunger-relief organization, and this "Hits for Hunger" program will add to that, directly helping the St. Louis Area Foodbank. In addition, baseball fans can get involved. By logging on to the Feeding America website, you can make your own contribution to help feed people across the United States — and the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will match the total online donations made during the game up to $100,000.
According to the press release, a recent Feeding America survey notes that demand at its food banks rose an average of 30 percent since 2008, and that people are taking measures like eating less and skipping meals because they can't afford to buy food.
The All-Stars will be doing their part on Tuesday, so don't forget to show your support and help feed those in need. Log on to the website to find out more.
