Fashion's Night Out is Almost Here!By Annie Scott | Friday, September 4, 2009 10:53 AM ET
Fashion's Night Out is going to be the single largest shopping event in New York City's history, and it's going to do a lot of good, too. The September 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center will receive 40 percent of the proceeds from the sale of a limited-edition Fashion’s Night Out T-shirt at participating retailers. The NYC AIDS fund will benefit from a citywide clothing drive (sponsored by IMG) that will begin on the 10th at various retail and public locations, and will culminate on September 12th. There are so many parties going on I hardly know where to start -- more than 700 stores are celebrating. The night also happens to kick off New York Fashion Week, and designers and celebs are going to show up in scads! I intend to wear an LBD and sunglasses all night and pretend I'm famous. Or, you know, Anna Wintour. And just what does Vogue's editor-in-chief have to say about the upcoming fashion extravaganza? “Little did I think when the idea of Fashion’s Night Out was first dreamed up this past March during the Paris collections that we would have over 700 and counting retailers, designers, and brands joining us on the night of September 10,” says Wintour. “Of course, I’ve always known the New York fashion industry to rise brilliantly to a challenge, but I am absolutely thrilled, awed, and more than a little proud that it has reacted so brilliantly to this initiative. There is so much planned that we could shop till dawn and still not see and do everything.” Well, wherever you go, you're going to have fun -- and if you have a favorite celeb, Google their name alongside Fashion's Night Out and see if they're scheduled to make an appearance anywhere! No one will think you're a stalker if you pretend you're there to shop. There are no tickets, no invitation-onlys; everyone can party on September 10. If you're not into drinking and shopping into the night, or you're watching your wallet and don't want to be tempted to spend, it's not too late to volunteer to help out! If you can't make it to NYC, you can still get a t-shirt from the retailers listed in pink here. It's for a good cause! |
