Got the Breakup Blues? Go Make Some Money!

Breaking off an engagement or getting a divorce just plain stinks. But a bit of extra cash could help dull the pain ... particularly if it comes from getting rid of the reminders of that failed relationship.

And so Out of Your Life comes to the romantic rescue. It's a new website that invites people to send in their unwanted jewelry in exchange for a check. Yeah, that's not so different from what plenty of nighttime ads on TV (or even pawn shops) offer, except this site makes the whole process easy, private, secure, and even a bit glamorous, since it supplies a sleek looking "Break-Up Box" (pictured, with the words "You're Better Off" inscribed) to send your former-treasures in.

Out of Your Life will take all types of jewelry, but its specialty is unwanted engagement and wedding rings. Some of what's sent in gets melted down and resold as gold and loose diamonds; other pieces get cleaned up and resold. Either way, the potentially painful mementos get, um, out of your life ...and put a bit of extra dough in your bank account.

And, don't worry: If you send your jewels in and reconsider — the selling part or the relationship itself  — as long as you call right away, you can get them back.
