How to Do It: Composting 101
Tired of slipping on banana peels? Ha ha.
No, really, though. Trash can pile up and the nice thing is that a lot of our trash doesn't need to be chucked into the rubbish bin to be floated out to the landfill. What you can do, is compost it.
Composting is actually kind of fun and even if you live in a city, there are places to take it if you're so inclined. (New York City's Union Square Greenmarket, for example, has a place to bring your kitchen waste and just like working out or learning to knit, you can do it if you make time for it.)
Gaiam Life has a handy A to Z on how to compost, which includes information on:
- What to Compost
- The Benefits of Composting
- How to Avoid Common Composting Mistakes
- An FAQ section.
Kids love it, too since they can see what was trash turn into ... okay, maybe not treasure, but it's close enough if, say, you plant some vegetables or flowers in the compost and see them grow.
