Jack's Mannequin Singer Becomes Cancer Cure Ambassador
Andrew McMahon spoke with Tonic several months back about his struggle overcoming cancer and his upcoming documentary. Well, the time has come for Dear Jack to debut in theaters, and the Jack's Mannequin singer is taking the next step by becoming a Stand Up to Cancer celebrity ambassador.
The organization — whose other ambassadors include Ana Delany, Dave Annable, David Archuleta, Ethan Zohn, Fran Drescher, Jamie King, Kirsten Dunst, Mandy Moore, Marcia Cross, Patrick Wilson, Sally Field, Sharon Osbourne and Sofia Vassilieva — funds groundbreaking research that strives to get new treatments to patients more quickly and to build support for the cause. So far, the organization has raised over $100 million through celebrity fundraisers and other events.
In addition to joining the Stand Up team, McMahon is ready to release Dear Jack, the stark documentary that covers his battle with the disease. Sold-out theatrical screenings are currently taking place in NYC and Los Angeles, and the DVD will hit stores on Nov. 3. Though we know the ending now, McMahon and his family obviously did not while filming his heart-touching film.
McMahon is currently on the road doing a solo tour to promote the Dear Jack documentary, which will include an EP soundtrack available exclusively on iTunes.
