Fresh Local is a fast food vendor that serves meals with a Slow Food ideology.

It sounds like an oxymoron, but for Josh Lanahan and his wife Michelle Lozuaway, it’s just good business. The pair, who have worked in restaurants for 15 years, wanted a kitchen of their own, but in the current economy they feared construction costs.

Lanahan told Arrive magazine: “Initially we were going to do a burger shack, but we couldn’t find the right place, so we’re like, ‘How about a mobile? If it doesn’t work, we can always move it.’”

They bought a catering truck from a friend and retrofitted it to run on biodiesel. According to NPR the pair have an acre and a half of land in Newington, Maine, where they have a garden and raise chickens organically.

Fresh Local recently added pulled pork sandwiches and healthy macaroni and cheese to their repertoire of lamb wraps, burgers and chicken. Next up: local-caught lobster rolls and fresh soups. Let the tasty times roll, we say....
