The Guardian newspaper reports that two of the biggest music festivals running in the UK this summer are adjusting their step enough to reduce their carbon footprint by 10 percent. Lovebox in London and Bestival on the Isle of Wight, are the latest to join the 10:10 climate change campaign calling for individuals, organizatons and companies to cut 10 percent of their emissions in 2010.

Tom Findlay, one half of the dance music duo Groove Armada, which runs Lovebox, said the festival has always promoted social causes and is eager to grab hold of this one.

"I was very fired up by the whole notion of the 10:10 campaign," he said. "You feel so powerless sometimes. I think it's important that people are empowered to feel that at home you can make a difference."

It's a creative push for events such as these to come up with whatever emissions-trimming tactics they can. Findlay concedes however that "a lot of it is just enormous practical common sense," such as their idea of using water fountains instead of plastic bottles. "There is no one fundamentally brilliant idea to solve it."

One particulary intriguing idea being investigated by the folks at Lovebox is solar-powered stages.

Now that's a hot concept.
