Make it a Great Day or Not, the Choice Is Yours!

I recently viewed the "Compliment Guys at Purdue University" YouTube video posted on the Tonic.com website (or watch above). I was shocked by the dedication these guys show by going out every Wednesday and complimenting everyone that walks past them. I think it is a wonderful thing that they do because I admit I have had days where everything seems to be going wrong and a kind word or two really helped to lift my spirits. It just goes to show that a little act of kindness can go a long way.

This reminds me of a saying my high school principal used to tell us every morning: "Make it a great day or not, the choice is yours." My friends and I used to make fun of the phrase because we heard it so often that it became a bit trite, but now that phrase comes to mind in a new appreciative light. I now realize the true meaning of that saying and I understand that it really is our choice whether we choose to have a great day or not. We cannot let the little setbacks get us down because it is important to think of all the positive things in our lives and move forward.

This is so true when I think of all my college friends that have just recently celebrated graduating college. I know a lot of them are scared right now because the job market is not exactly oozing with employment opportunities. Yet, I truly believe if they keep the above saying in mind and choose to make the best of what they have, they will succeed in the long run. Sometimes, it is very easy to view situations as a half-empty glass but we must remember that the glass can also be viewed as half full and that there are many positives to be thankful for in life.
