Superhero Gardener
Call Shrub Man a superhero for the Noughties. His mission: To add flowers to the historic English town of Colchester, just east of London.
His story begins when Colchester’s council announced it planned to get rid of rose beds to save money. An anonymous superhero — who of course, has a Facebook page (we told you he was a superhero for the Noughties) — was born.
All that is known about him, thanks to his Facebook page, is that he’s male and 39 years old. He first held a protest outside the town hall. The council agreed to keep the roses, but still the Shrub Man’s work wasn’t finished. Dressed in his costume, he weeded Colchester's overgrown flower beds and replaced them with colorful blooms.
“I am a little unsure how to handle all this human attention,” he told the U.K.'s Sky News through Facebook. “I am currently in the shade and comfort of other shrubs.”
Responding to messages of support from fans on his page, he wrote: “Shrub is back and I am planning more work.”
Brace yourself.
