Demesne. Billet-doux. Evanescent.

No, I don't know what they mean either -- but I do know that they sound pretty cool to say. And apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Alphadictionary.com, the online source for all your word inquiries, released its list of the top 100 most beautiful words in the English language.

The list was created by Mr. Robert Beard, writing under the nom de plume Dr. Goodword. Beard is the a main contributor to alphadictionary.com and the author of So, What's the Good Word?, his daily column that shares a word every day that he finds interesting and emails the definition to people who have subscribed via email. Just an example: today's word is zyzzyva -- a tropical South American weevil. How about that? We both just learned something new!

Sounds pretty cool, huh? Check out the entire site, as it has a lot of interesting and educational things to offer, including a linguistics mini-course and the 100 Most Beautiful Words list. I personally might have thrown "pizza" and "wings" on that list, but that's just me being a perma-hungry college kid.
