A Moving Work of Art

Noodle-y arms. Pigeon chest. Dark and brooding demeanor. The requirements needed to be a card-carrying creative type don't exactly coincide with what many would look for in a good furniture mover. But the New York Times reports that if you're artistic, looking for work and can heft a couch, the founder of Rabbit Movers wants to hire you.

Shawn Lyons came to New York to be a writer. As many artists know, he had to have a side job that would pay the bills while he was pursuing his writerly ambitions. That job, was being a mover. After a few years, business started picking up and that side job became his main job. Lyons estimates the company makes about $400,000 a year and employs 40 movers, all of them creative types like Lyons who are looking for something flexible that can help them make ends meet while still pursuing their art. It also helps the work environment when everyone is like-minded.

And judging by these glowing Yelp reviews, the customers are also happy. Turns out, those spindly, tattooed arms can do more than just light a cigarette.
