Picking Up the ScentBy Kendall Hunter | Monday, October 19, 2009 4:25 PM ET
Lush UK's latest campaign against illegal fox hunting is currently marking its territory in British shops. Known for their stance on animal rights and involvement in community issues, they've joined forces with The Hunt Saboteurs Association to combat the illegal hunting of foxes. Apparently most folks out there aren't aware foxes are still being hunted despite public outcry and the passing of the Hunting Act in 2005 banning mounted hunts. According to the Lush Web site, the Hunt "Sabs" (for saboteurs) are unpaid volunteers that use non-violent means to protect hunted animals, often filming the hunters breaking the law to give to the police, but also helping to save animals by diverting hunted hounds away from their prey or covering the fox's scent. The organization is over 40 years old and has saved thousands of animals of various species. Hilary Jones, Lush’s Director of Ethics, says, "This is the 21st Century and there are more ways than ever to have fun. Chasing living creatures to the point of exhaustion and then ripping them apart is not just cruel - it is unthinkably bizarre and shows a lack of imagination and basic humanity." The "Fabulous Mrs. Fox" bubble bomb will be on sale until Boxing Day, which is a traditional day for fox hunting. By the way, no need to worry about the bomb's scent, it's made of peppermint and angelica root to celebrate the Great British countryside.
