Adopt a Bit of Solar Energy and Do the World GoodBy Judy Mottl | Monday, October 26, 2009 2:00 PM ET Working off the premise that there is power in numbers, an alternative energy source provider is hoping to lure support and expand the use of solar power with an online program called SolarCure. EarthSure, a New Jersey-based renewable energy company, believes the program can make big inroads in promoting the adoption of solar power through old-fashioned networking. The "Adopt-A-Panel" effort lets people, businesses and organizations "adopt" a panel to be built into a solar project at sites across the country. According to a press release, solar energy efforts have been thwarted by the still relatively high cost of the technology. The company believes that by using the Web and a charitable "adopt" approach, the hurdle can be cleared. "Until the inception of SolarCure’s 'Adopt a panel' program, renewable energy was only for select companies and wealthy individuals. Now, everyone is able to 'plug into the sun' and make a huge difference in the environment and the future of our planet, helping to clean our green Earth, one solar panel at a time," states the press release. Once you commit to the "adoption," you can log onto the SolarCure site and check out where your solar panel has been installed, the environmental benefit and how much energy it is producing. SolarCure’s originator, Raymond Saluccio, stated in the release, “Pledging funds to help install solar panels will also help places such as schools save money in their energy needs. This saved money could be used to provide better facilities and programs for our children."
