Will Sing for Shoes
It's easy to track down a branch of Nine West virtually anywhere in America ... and now this find-it-everywhere retailer is hoping to find something of its own: an aspiring singer to become the voice of its newest collection.
The ubiquitous retailer has just launched its Vintage Collection, a line of shoes with an appealingly aged, classic American feel. To help spread the word, the Nine West folks are holding a contest on YouTube to find a musician to sing an original composition about the line that will become its theme song. You can vote for your favorites each week — the contest is up through early September — and the winner will get a recording deal for their song, plus (of course!) some Vintage Collection goodies. Consider it American Idol for the Carrie Bradshaw set.
Even if the winning song isn't your favorite, there's plenty to like about this collection as well as its easy-to-wear designs. Nine West is working with the organization Soles4Souls on the line, helping raise awareness of the nonprofit's work to give shoes to those in need through logos and links placed within the Vintage Collection posters and ads. And Nine West and its parent company Jones New York support a bunch of other charitable causes too, like TeachersCount and Adopt-a-Classroom. In other words, as you're getting your regular shoe fix at one of Nine West's 1,000 or so stores worldwide, you're actually helping make a (at least a little) difference.
So whether your favorite potential Vintage Collection theme is country, pop, blues, or jazz, it's sure to have plenty of sole.
