Learning how to protect yourself from cancer might be the lesson that saves your life.

And according to the World Cancer Research Fund/ American Institute for Cancer Research, we are gaining strides in prevention, reports Natural Health Magazine.

The results of thousands of studies over five years by top scientists indicate that the trifecta in foiling this dreaded and often devastating disease is learning how to control stress, eating right and exercise. These three components, the studies show, are actually more effective than previously thought. The article states that scientists say that healthy living and early detection could prevent up to 70 percent of all cancers.

Maybe you're not ready for all three. But maybe, just maybe, today's the day where you try just one:

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
  • Forgo that steak tonight for a salmon fillet with a side of asparagus and salad. It's no less tasty, but loads more healthy.
  • Give in and try that yoga class your friend has bugged you about going to.

Who knows what your odds are of getting cancer, but if there is some evidence that you might boost your immune system and thwart cancer's advances, well as the saying goes, there's no time like the present.
