It's been a tough week, what with the passing of Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and now Michael Jackson.

Nevermind the legal troubles and other oddities, the King of Pop has entertained us all at one point or another. Here's Tonic's top 10 reasons to remember MJ:

10. The red jacket, the zippers, the floods...
9. "ABC"
8. Vincent Price, zombies...
7. The Jackson 5: Tito, JJ, Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael
6. "Smooth Criminal"
5. "We Are the World," written in 1985 with Lionel Ritchie.

4. The Glove
3. Every song on "Off the Wall"
2. Moonwalking
1. "Thriller" -- the whole dang album.

i was a wee shaver in the very early 70s living in ann arbor michigan, where motown was huge. jackson 5 figured very prominently in my early experience of music. huge sentimental attachment there. it's a sad day.

I remember when "Black Or White" came out and there was that face morphing at the end. I was AMAAAAAAAAZED. That's worth remembering, to me.

Michael Jackson was one of the greatest songwriters of our generation. It's not often written about, as his personal lifestyle sadly drew more media attention than his genius, but he was one of the great ones in music history.

I guess being a pedophile doesn't count against all of that great song writing. Tools.
