The British Are Tweeting, Anyone Listening?
The family royal, that fun-loving monarchy across the pond (The Queen mum, Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and Prince Harry) are now official Twitter users, but their loyal country people don't seem to be too impressed.
Just 9,117 people are following the BritishMonarchy, and who knows how many of those actually live in England. Even if they're all British natives, that is a piddling fan base given there are 60 million U.K. residents.
Maybe it's because all they seem to do is tweet about their social engagements. Who's attending what function, gala and event is all that seems to tweet from the royal household. Good gosh, they even tweet about the daily changing of the guard, at Windsor and Buckingham Palace.
In fact, a review of tweets since the Twitter account launched on April 28 shows that nearly half of the tweets are guard notices, and a major portion of the rest are calendar activities, though whomever is twittering seemed to mix it up at the start with non-events such as what the Prince of Wales is doing to help rain forests and some insight on what the Order of the Garter is (and no, it's not what you're likely thinking it is).
One can only surmise what the late, great funnyman Benny Hill could do with this kind of material.
