Tonic Mixtape: Jovi Rockwell
Sean Paul is so yesterday.
Right now, dancehall's rising star is a 22-year-old that goes by the name Jovi Rockwell. You might have heard the Kingston, Jamaica native on the Diplo track "Can't Stop Now" with Mr. Vegas or on her own bangin' "Rizzla," but you are sure to hear more as the singer-rapper works with Akon, Ne-Yo, The Heavyweights and other top artists-producers on her forthcoming debut disc, currently titled Rebel. Love. Goddess.
On her MySpace page, Rockwell says those words fit her style because "… in 3 words, that's what I am: a rebel, a lover and a goddess. Simple! These three terms reflect my special brand of expression and my unique approach to life."Another Caribbean queen, Rihanna, went way more pop after her debut disc, but don't expect the same from this cabaret star's daughter. She's got a flow like a rasta M.I.A. that no one wants to see get watered down. While there is no release date set for her debut disc, word on the street is that Rockwell could take dancehall right back into the mainstream.
Sean Paul, Beanie Man, you've been served.
