Set Your Goals have been around for years crisscrossing the country with the Warped Tour and other major punk acts, but the Area Bay group is finally bubbling to the surface with their new album "This Will Be the Death of Us" on Epitaph Records.

Influenced by '90s skate punk and hardcore, the band delivers straightforward punk rock without all the funny haircuts and stage gimmicks. The energy always remains high, but Set Your Goals also knows how to deliver the vocal hooks and melodies that they empower with dual singers, Matt Wilson and Jordan Brown, taking turns on microphone duty.

Ironically, though, it's a third singer that's helping them get some extra radio play. The band has toured with Paramore, whose singer Hayley Williams joins them on the wild track "The Few That Remain." This song, along with the official title track single (see below), is giving Set Your Goals that mainstream push that's putting them over the top.

It's funny to think of the '90s as old school now, but this Cali acts has much more in common with Guttermouth, the Vandals, Good Ridance and the other bands of that decade than they do with the post-Y2K blink-182, Sum 41 and Good Charlotte. Personally, I'm glad to hear that '90s style coming back!

Covering entertainment since the early '90s, David Jenison has conducted over 1,000 interview features that range from roving through Havana with the Happy Mondays to upending the Mayor of Hermosa Beach's house with Pennywise.
