Tyra Tyra Tyra

Let's take a look back at a September moment of fluff.

What I absolutely adore about Tyra Banks is that she's not afraid to just be Tyra. Before she achieved the next level of celebrity by having both a successful reality show and a talk show, I could take or leave the supermodel who shuttled down catwalks in Victoria's Secret or bounced along the sandy coast of some gorgeous island in very little fabric to shoot a cover for Sports Illustrated.

Yet in the five short years since her "retirement" from the runway, Tyra has proved to be a media commodity and with her Emmy wins has cemented her legacy. Its just, well, this one thing has always boggled my mind: With her fashion sense, her flawless makeup and the positive self awareness about her body – whats going on with the hair?

It has been every which a way but "real". She's worn every artificial hairstyle that many women trust in ints familiarity and comfort for so long - she knew we were starting to wonder just what was going on under the lace fronts and synthetic weaves.

Not that there's anything wrong with it! Empowerment through hair? For women and many men its their crowning glory. But ... for someone like Tyra who has sucessfully gone to bat for women, daring them to be true to their selves and embrace their flaws despite societal norms, the message may have become so mixed that it started to become hard to ignore.

Well bless you Tyra for answering the call!  A couple of weeks ago, for her season premiere, Banks unveiled her real hair and is daring to go au natural for the bulk of this season of her talk show which has made the move to the CW Network.

Listen, you must give the girl credit, she's revealed her cellulite, proven her boobs were real and dressed in a fat suit for ratings, for a woman to pull off her wigs and weaves before a live studio audience, that's right up there!

Its bigger than "image" for Tyra; she is providing encouragement for women to stop being a slave to the iron. Check out the video and her tips for laying off the harsh chemicals and freeing yourself from the burden most women find so difficult to free themselves from!
