As one of the country's largest retail banks and financial services providers, Bank of America has the resources to help millions of people - and it does just that.

Bank of America makes loans to and invests in projects that improve communities and the world, and in 2008, the institution announced its most ambitious lending and investment goal ever: $1.5 trillion over 10 years. This goal focuses on four main areas: affordable housing, small business and small farm ownership, consumer loans and economic development. Within these areas, the company has a strong focus on Rural and Native American initiatives, providing funding to nonprofit organizations, partnerships and leaders in these communities. Bank of America served as a key sponsor of the 2008 annual Convention of the National Congress of American Indians, the oldest, largest and most representative national Indian organization serving the needs of Native Americans. Additional organizations with which Bank of America has worked in the past include National Urban League, National Council of La Raza, Habitat for Humanity and AARP.

Bank of America provides grants that help strengthen neighborhoods in which it does business, both on local and national levels. Through the company's Neighborhood Excellence Initiative, Bank of America enables nonprofit organizations to help individuals and families in need, as well as strengthens community leaders of today and tomorrow. The bank also invests in historic tax credit properties, including rental housing, commercial and mixed-use developments benefitting low- and moderate-and targeted areas. In addition, the company helps strengthen neighborhoods by providing financing for small businesses in the form of working capital, inventory, equipment, commercial real estate, business acquisitions and debt refinancing.

Bank of America associates give of their time and money, and the company provides matching gifts as well as volunteer grants. Each year, Bank of America employees give more than 900,000 hours to help those in need.
