As a child, Rabeika Messina, the daughter of an architect and a civil engineer, played with rulers, scale models and blueprints. There were no Barbie dolls at the Messina household, where bad décor was considered a blasphemy. As an adult, she still considers bad décor an abomination, but now makes plush dolls and puerile illustrations in order to make up for lost time. A student in NYU’s Magazine Writing graduate program, Messina focuses on the arts and crafts beat. She joins us as an intern in the Summer 2009 Positively Good Writer's Program.

The organic cotton T-shirt, the quintessential ethical garment, may have been outgreened. The new contender is the organic dress that can be worn as the dress itself, or, after a few pops, as a top, or a belt, or a high-waisted or low-waisted skirt.
