Every Little Bit Helps When It Comes to Saving the Forest
Remember the prediction that we'd all be sitting in paperless offices by the dawn of 2000? The thought then was that client computing would eradicate paper files and having to save documents in hard copy. Then came the advent of mobile communication devices and the dawn of storing data in "the cloud" and the potential truly loomed.
The ultimate benefit, of course, would be saving trees as wood pulp wouldn't be in such demand for paper production.
And the movement is continuing, with even online companies doing their part.
The 48HourPrint.com company is switching to recycled paper that's made right in the U.S., taking a nice step in the direction of going green and also doing its part to stimulate the nation's lagging economy.
The online printing services firm, which sells printed products and offers mail services, is working with U.S. paper company NewPage to use recycled stock in place of standard paper, which is a bit more expensive. But, unlike most companies that typically pass such a business increase onto consumers via increased prices, the site is absorbing the additional costs.
"Offering a recycled sheet as our standard paper choice sends a strong message about 48HourPrint.com’s commitment to quality and the environment," said Raymond E. Pinard, president and CEO, in a press statement. "We know that there are a lot of people and businesses that share our belief that doing better for the environment is an imperative, not an option. When we found a recycled paper that would also result in a superior quality product for our customers, we made it our standard sheet," added Pinard.
While the business move won't save an entire rain forest, every little bit of good helps and does make a difference. And, really, who doesn't want to do business with an environmentally friendly operation?
