Scandinavian Airline to Host the First Gay Wedding in Flight

For all those gay couples out there who want to wed but can't because it's either illegal in their state or can't find the right venue, one airline may have the answer. As long as the duo isn't afraid of heights, is available in December 2010 and enjoys getting boozy on airplanes, they are eligible to be part of the world's first in-flight gay wedding!

The Scandinavian airline SAS thinks that "love is in the air" and wants a special couple to walk down their very clean and well lit aisle in holy matrimony. Even though all couples are encouraged to apply, the airline says they're really itching to marry a same-sex couple. On Dec. 6, the flight will leave from Stockholm and arrive in New York, but the actual ceremony will take place over Swedish territory where gay marriage is legal. 

People worldwide are eligible to enter, even though only a handful of states and countries allow same-sex marriages. The unions won't be legal if the couple's home state or country doesn't recognize it. Although New York doesn't allow its gay residents to marry, it will recognize legal same-sex unions performed out of state.

Not only will the SAS help the lucky winners tie the knot thousands of feet above sea level, but they also vowed to pay for the flight tickets, hotels, a honeymoon in Los Angeles and a special meal for the on-flight reception. Just because the celebration is on an airplane, doesn't mean it won't be the real deal. SAS spokesman Anders Lindstroem told the AFP, "There will be wedding cake and dancing in the aisles."
