Admiral: Tweet, Pentagon, Tweet

If there is one thing Admiral Mike Mullen isn't about to do, it's to stop tweeting.

As the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff writes today on his Facebook page, a newly launched study of how the military uses social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and micro-blog tool Twitter isn't going to shut down his love for the tools:

"Obviously we need to find right balance between security and transparency. We are working on that. But am I still going to tweet? You bet," Mullen told Twitter followers after an LA Times story reported that the Pentagon wants to implement some rule making on military members using such sites to communicate.

Security issues are the main reason for the study, which is due to be completed by early October, according to reporter Julian Barnes.

Military personnel have long been banned from using government computers to access such sites.

On his page Mullen notes that it's his official page, and that visitors seeking official information about the Chairman and the Joint Staff should click over to their official website.
