Alicia Silverstone Presents "The Kind Diet"
In my everlasting quest to develop healthier eating habits, I often look to celebs for inspiration.
I do this not so much to hold myself to the ideal of atypical "Hollywood" lifestyles, but to examine what regimes they command to be their best selves. Alicia Silverstone's new diet book "The Kind Diet" looks to be on my shelf soon.
For one thing, she's consistent. Alicia has long led a vegan lifestyle and it's indicative in her clothing (she does not wear leather or fur) and meal choices. In a town where fly by night trends and endorsements can be lucrative for flaky celebs, she is sticking to her beliefs.
Her book hits shelves tomorrow and it takes a unique approach to the vegan-curious. The book includes a 3-step diet program, allowing those interested to ease into vegetarianism by slowly eliminating non plant-based foods. She also offers vegan and macrobiotic recipes. The diet is high in protein and fiber and low in saturated fat and cholesterol. Silverstone also illustrates how choosing a plant-based diet can benefit your body.
Alicia told CrazySexyLife.com she wants to readers "To take in the information and realize what is possible -- including improved health, a renewed sense of happiness and a contribution towards improving the health of our planet."
"Her knowledge about environmental issues and her enthusiasm for her program is infectious," said publishing director, Pam Krausson.
I haven't completely accepted the lack of chicken and bacon in my diet, separately or together, but I'm looking forward to exploring the benefits and trying to save the world at the same time.
And of course, the vainest benefit of them all, the clear skin. Bring it!
