Alicia Silverstone Talks About Her 'Kind Life' on Oprah
So Cher (okay fine, Alicia Silverstone) is like, totally buggin'. Why? She was Oprah today! The actress took to her blog, "The Kind Life," and gave readers a sneak peek at the episode — all about "the food you eat, where it comes from, and how it affects your health." Oprah also interviewed food expert Michael Pollan for the episode she's calling "Before You Grocery Shop Again."
Silverstone has been out of the limelight for a few years now, and she's been focusing on living a healthier lifestyle. For her, that meant going from being a run-of-the-mill vegetarian, which she'd been since the age of 8, to a strict vegan. Why, you ask? Well, allow Oprah and Alicia to overshare on Winfrey's website!
According to Oprah.com, Silverstone may have been riding high after her breakout role as Cher Horowitz in 1995's seminal teen classic Clueless, but offscreen, her life was another story. She was "battling severe asthma, insomnia, full-blown acne and constipation." Three years after the film, the actress ended her "steak and donut diet" and converted to a vegan lifestyle, which she credits with clearing her complexion, making her look less puffy, and helping her feel better overall.
Silverstone took Oprah's audience on a vegan grocery shopping excursion — via satellite — for "yummy, plant-based food." Then, she and fellow actress Laura Linney cooked recipes from Silverstone's new vegan cookbook. Even if you aren't a vegan, Silverstone and Michael Pollan's tips are a helpful way to introduce more plant-based foods and nutrients into your diet. Tune in Wednesday to learn more about Alicia Silverstone's "Kind Life." Guess her days of skinning collies for her backpack are over. (Yes, I liked the movie!)
