'All for Good' Is Good for All
Hailed as a "Craigslist for Service" by the Huffington Post, a new website called All for Good looks to build on the energy of President Obama's call to service, with help from corporate America.
The site helps volunteers find opportunities to help. It's open source and you can use Facebook, Google and other social networking options to track and share the opportunities with friends and family members. It displays volunteering events in your area, includes popular searches and allows you to search by keyword.
Currently in "alpha" (or early development) mode, All for Good is hosted by Google and some of the company's engineers helped developed it, based on the "20 percent time" that the company allows employees to work on projects they're passionate about. And according to this MSNBC.com article, people from Obama's transition team were in on it from the beginning. That includes Sonal Shah, who was the head of global development at Google.org, the company's philanthropic group, before heading the new White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation.
People from companies such as YouTube, Adobe and the Craigslist Foundation have also been involved, and eventually, a nonprofit group called Our Good Works will manage it.
