American Express Gets 'Gleeful' About Social Action
The card company that brought us those unforgettable ads with celebrities touting, "My life. My card." is teaming up with another cast of characters who have taught us that we can achieve the impossible.
That's right. This week, American Express launched an ad campaign featuring the cast of Glee. But just what are they selling? An idea, actually. The goal is to get viewers to make a difference in their communities, reports Reuters.
"Some people want to do good, some people don't. Which one are you?" the campaign asks fans and urges them to go to membersproject.com/glee and find out how to volunteer, vote, donate and bring about social change.
The partnership is actually between the card company's philanthropic division dubbed the Members Project and FOX, the network that airs Glee. It kicked off yesterday (Wednesday) on the Web and TV. The spots were written, directed and produced by the creative team behind the show and star the teenage bards and chanteuses we've come to love.
This Friday, a 60-second black-and-white spot starring Emmy winner Jane Lynch as cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester will debut in movie theaters across the country. Online, the campaign takes on a more interactive shape with a quiz and Facebook and Twitter updates from the Glee characters.
It gets even better. There is also a sweepstakes where 10 winners will get to fly to Los Angeles and actually volunteer with Glee cast members, including Lynch, Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison and Chris Colfer.
So go ahead, get gleeful about social change. It's yet another life experience brought to you by American Express.
