LOHAS Conference Offers Insight Into Sustainable Business

The idea of generating a profit while doing something good for the planet is nothing new, and since 1996, LOHAS has been the longest-running network for sustainable business practices. The acronym stands for “Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability, a market segment focused on health and fitness, the environment, personal development, sustainable living, and social justice.”

There's still time to sign up for the annual LOHAS Forum, which is being held this year from June 17 to 19 at the St. Julien Hotel in Boulder, Colo. The forum has sold out in both registrations and exhibit spaces for last two years, and last year over 560 executive attendees represented 360 companies. More, over 40 percent in attendance are business owners and CEOs. According to the website, “LOHAS business owners and industry leaders from around the world meet each year at the LOHAS Conference to discuss industry trends, share ideas, and learn how to run a successful LOHAS business.”

The focus of this year's conference is to “Unite Fortune 500 Leaders with Environmental Experts to Navigate the Rapidly Growing 'Green' Marketplace.” Featured speakers will include execs from Coca Cola, Wal Mart, Facebook and eBay as well as sustainability advocates from Planet Green, Natural Capital Solutions and the Natural Marketing Institute.

For those who can't attend, the LOHAS website is an excellent resource for any business owner, exec or layperson interested in sustainability. Besides keeping readers abreast of current sustainable business developments, the site offers a weekly newsletter, business directory, even a green stock index.
