Bad Economy Isn't Dampening Dating Desires

Out of work? Unemployed? If the answer is yes, there is one thing, at least, that will make you feel better. You're still attractive to the other sex, or same sex, whichever the case may be.

Zoosk conducted an online poll of its own singles (about 1,009 of them) asking them whether the recession is hurting their love lives and the answer is a resounding "no."

Even those living with their parents due to economics aren't feeling any pinch in the ardor department.

Over three quarters, 78 percent, said being without a job isn't a dating challenge and that they would date someone currently unemployed. Not surprisingly, more men than women don't find it a challenge (92 percent), which just over half, 52 percent, would date an unemployed male.

Here's Zoosk co-founder and co-CEO Alex Mehr on the poll findings:

"The results of this poll show that singles are not letting the economy get in the way of their dating lives."

Zoosk also queried respondents on whether they would date someone living in their their parents' home. And even that potential social taboo is not a passion killer either, as 80 percent would date someone living with their parents.

I do wonder, though, how many respondents themselves are living with their parents? Also, consider the fact that over half of Zoosk members (65 percent) are under age 30.

One has to think the answers might be a tad different did the demographics skew a little older.

I have a sneaky suspicion that few men or women would not be so non-judgmental if their prospective dates were in their early 40s. It's also pretty clear that the recession isn't proving daunting to investors when it comes to online dating business ventures.

Zoosk, which raised $4.1 million in its second round of funding last June, just took in another $6 million this month.

Maybe, as they say, it's because misery does love company.
