Hot Pants
Business attire is not cool. It's not just how square suits and ties make you look, either. In Bangladesh, they’re quite literally not cool.
Yahoo UK reports that the country’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered that all civil servants ditch their suits and ties on hot days to save on air conditioning costs. Instead of the usual corporate uniform, Hasina is calling for workers to wear short-sleeved shirts.
The South Asian nation has suffered from energy shortages thanks to its booming economy, which has been growing at a rate of 6 percent a year for the last five years. This is just one way the government is trying to offer relief to citizens – and the environment. Clocks were also advanced an hour in June to maximize daylight hours.
Hey, we have hot summers and energy problems stateside, too. For those who suffer through sweltering suit-and-tie summers here, maybe it’s only a matter of time before flip flops become acceptable at the office. But we’ll say stop before we see our bosses in short shorts.
