Beware the Drain-Dwelling Alligators!

Remember those urban legends about people flushing pet baby alligators down toilets, creating giant, sewer-dwelling gators? Well, turns out those myths have a teensy bit of truth to them.

According to a WPLG story, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue recently pulled an unexpected critter out of a storm drain: A seven-foot-long, 150-pound alligator! To see some pics of the giant reptile, click here.

The gator was discovered after residents near the storm drain heard a strange splashing sound and called fire rescue. The poor guy had been stranded in the drain for two whole days. Using a noose, rescuers were able to pull the gator out and returned him to the Everglades. Luckily, the alligator was not injured during the process.

Apparently, it's not so uncommon for gators to show up in residential neighborhoods in Florida. Locals told WPLG that they sometimes see the animals in canals behind houses, but this is the first time they've seen a gator of such a large size in the neighborhood.

We're guessing residents and the alligator are a lot happier now that the it's back in the Everglades.
