Bill Cosby and the Stafford Foundation Are 'Doing Good'
Bill Cosby spent years embodying what a good dad looks like on "The Cosby Show," establishing an iconic, feel-good sitcom legacy. While some of his actions as a public figure since then have been controversial, he is now getting back to his "good-dad" roots by representing the Doing Good campaign being launched by the Stafford Foundation.
The Doing Good campaign aims to help the needy become self-reliant so that they can then help others — a kind of pay-it-forward idea. The effort will offer people job-training, health attention and cultural enrichment opportunities. The campaign launch will involve a national public service announcement featuring Cosby.
"Even during this daunting time when so many people are losing jobs, homes and hope, the American people want to help others in need," said said Cosby in a statement.
The Doing Good Website features stories of enterprising people who are helping others after achieving their own dreams. Karen Broadley, for instance, is employing disabled people in her own pie shop after being inspired by her volunteer work at Cape Abilities, a nonprofit that helps people with disabilities on Cape Cod, Masachusetts.
The Stafford Foundation last emerged into the spotlight in January 2009 with its Peoples' Inaugural Project, which brought hundreds of people who would not have had the means to Washington DC for the Inauguration of President Barack Obama.
