Bird Calls for Those on the Go
If the latest Black Eyed Peas ringtone, or Mariah Carey's wail of "why are you so obsessed with me" lyrics (which is the favorite right now with my teenage girls), doesn't ring your bell and you're yearning for more of a natural sound from a cell phone, then you're in luck.
That is, if you're a Sprint mobile handset user. The nation's third largest wireless carrier and the National Audubon Society have teamed up to offer 28 bird calls in hopes of raising awareness that birds and their habitats need our help.
Included on the ringtone list are the field sparrow, the red-bellied woodpecker and the black-capped chickadee (shown in photo). You can preview the tweets before handing over the $2.50 ringtone fee.
“We recognize that protecting bird populations is vital to the overall health of our environment, especially as birds can provide urgent warnings about threats to our water, air, natural resources, climate and more,” said Ralph Reid, vice president of corporate social responsibility for Sprint, in a statement.
According to the bird society, a birdsong is one of the best-loved sounds of the natural world.
“Thanks to this new program from Sprint, mobile phone users can help to raise awareness to protect birds and their habitats, and, at the same time, enjoy some of our most beautiful and unique bird calls every time the phone rings," Sandy Pinto, director, licensing at Audubon, said in the release.
Take that, human songbirds Fergie and Mariah.
