Brad Pitt for Mayor?

file_76_50Brad Pitt was spotted over the weekend hanging with his sons Pax and Maddox at a Green Day show. We know the family seems to call the Crescent City one of their many "hometowns." The actor is helping to rebuild the Lower Ninth Ward after hurricane Katrina with his organization the Make it Right Foundation. Now some New Orleanians are showing their appreciation by campaigning for Pitt to run for mayor in 2010. And they're spreading the word by wearing "Brad Pitt for Mayor" T-shirts. But is this actor planning to make a political plunge and following in the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan? The Brad Pitt for Mayor Campaign movement is picking up steam in trying to get Pitt elected. What started as a joke may soon become a reality. Pitt, who is heavily promoting his new film Inglorious Basterds, is expected to talk about the internet craze in an exclusive interview with Ann Curry on the Today Show.

Professor Thomas Brayer of Tulane University started the idea earlier this spring. After making a homemade copy of the shirt he walked into Storyville, a little shop near the campus urging them to start creating and marketing the design which simply says "Brad Pitt for Mayor" next to a picture of the handsome heartthrob.

"Brad Pitt is someone who's really done a lot for the City of New Orleans and the more people are talking about it. It sounds less and less crazy, especially with Gov. Schwarzenegger and Al Franken about to be sworn in as the U.S. Senator from Minnesota," said Josh Harvey, the owner of Storyville to a local New Orleans station.

If you Google "Brad Pitt for Mayor," more than 1 million search results pop up, including a web site with the top reasons why he should be elected.

A portion of T-shirt sales (they are only $20) goes to the Make it Right Foundation. If nothing else, the movement is generating tremendous press for New Orleans.
