A Breastfeeding Mom Fights Back
Don't screw with a breastfeeding mom.
That's clearly the lesson one Chicago woman learned after she hassled Lauren Trost for breastfeeding her seven-month-old son in Rogers Park. Trost wasn't too happy when the woman alerted other people in the park and eventually called the police on Trost, who says she was only doing what nature intended.
Trost got so ticked at the woman that she turned to a mom's best friend -- Internet message boards -- to express her indignation and organize a breastfeeding sit-in to protest her unfair treatment. On Friday, dozens of moms converged on Rogers Park and whipped out their breasts to feed their babies, offended people be damned!
"Breasts are men's toys, don't you know," protester Colette Bernhard sarcastically told the Chicago Sun-Times. "They're not supposed to be for your baby... In the 1930s, [mothers] would unbutton their [dresses] and pull the whole thing aside to nurse their babies, according to my 96-year-old great-aunt. I thought we were more enlightened in the 21st Century."
The protesters did not encounter much resistance, and the Sun-Times reports that people eating lunch at a nearby cafe barely glanced at the breastfeeding women.
Unsurprisingly, the woman who called the police on Trost was nowhere in sight. But Trost said she has a plan in place if she ever encounters her again.
"I think I'd smile at her and breastfeed my baby," Trost said. "Maybe I'd give her a little knowing wink."
You go, mama girl!
