Building Candy Houses for Charity

Nathan Sawaya, also known as "The Brick Artist," builds all kinds of models, but this is the sweetest ever: above, he builds a house out of Ritter Sport chocolate bars to draw attention to volunteers who build homes. The idea is so simple, it's genius.

It's essentially the oldest trick in the book: 1. Make people look, 2. Now that they're looking, get your message across. It reminds me of all those sexy commercials where they never (or barely) show the product. They just want you looking so they can throw the brand name at you.

This is a little less conniving than that, and more on the nose. He's building this Ritter Sport chocolate bar house to raise awareness about housing needs and encourage others to volunteer to build, you know, actual houses. We think that's pretty neat -- and so is his chocolate bar house!

If you are inspired to do a little building, get yourself involved with Habitat for Humanity, and for more inspiring, smile-inducing ideas, head to Ritter Sport's Happiness Squared contest page.
