'California Dreams' Cast Reunites on 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon'
Jimmy Fallon seems to have found his niche — and a surefire way to earn his place in our hearts: reuniting the casts of '90s sitcoms. First, he tried valiantly to make the Saved by the Bell reunion happen — unfortunately, he only got Zack Morris, but we did learn a lot about Zack Attack's life since Bayside. People Magazine got the ultimate scoop with the Bell. Last night, though, Fallon finally proved triumphant in his cause: he brought together the cast of one of the great Saturday morning teen sitcoms on NBC (the TNBC block ... remember that?). They were "surf dudes with attitudes;" they were California Dreams.
"With the end of one dream comes the beginning of a brand new dream," Fallon waxed rhapsodic as he spoke of the Saved by the Bell reunion that almost was, "That's right, I'm talking about the teen NBC sitcom that used to air right after Saved by the Bell on Saturday mornings: California Dreams ... It was basically like Saved by the Bell, but they also were in a band, and they all hung out at this place called Sharkey's, which was basically their version of The Max. It also had the greatest theme song of all time. It'd be awesome to get the whole cast together again."
And Fallon did not disappoint. He got the band back together. The entire band/cast. Not only that, he got the original California Dreams to perform their incredible theme song, backed by The Roots. There's not really anything else to say besides watch the magic from last night's Late Night unfold. I'm off to watch the episode clips I just found on YouTube and hope that Jimmy's next reunion will feature the cast of Hang Time! Now that was a theme song.
