Carrie Underwood Offers Single for the Humane Society
American Idol alumna Carrie Underwood, who turned her season four win into a successful country career, is giving back both to the show and to the community.
She recently recorded a cover of Mötley Crüe's "Home Sweet Home" to be used as the post-elimination farewell video for the new season. Better still, the digital track is available for sale with all proceeds benefiting the Humane Society of the United States.
"I've always loved this song, and besides being very fitting for Idol, to me, the title is also very fitting with animal rescue and finding animals their own homes," said the singer in a statement. "So we felt it was important to tie the release into an amazing animal charity like the HSUS."
Underwood premiered the song on the March 11 episode of American Idol and the track was an iTunes exclusive until March 16, at which point it was made available to all online retailers. Fans reacted by making “Home Sweet Home” the top debut on the current Hot 100 chart, opening at No. 21, over new singles by Kelly Clarkson, the Black Eyed Peas and Miley Cyrus. The song sold 112,000 digital copies for the week helping it peak at No. 1 on iTunes, No. 10 on the Digital Songs chart and at No. 33 in Canada.
Thanks to Underwood and her many fans, the single is finding home sweet homes for countless rescued animals.
