Celebrate 'National Share Your Positivity Week'
A big storm rolled in Tuesday (well, big for the San Francisco Bay area), dumping a consistent rain throughout the day along with gusting winds, casting something of a pall over the area. Therefore, it probably wouldn't surprise you if I felt a little down today, right? And while that could've happened, I'm actually feeling pretty good. We've needed this rain for a while, I've got fun plans tonight, and, hey, life's pretty darn good. In addition, I'm taking part in celebrating National Share Your Positivity Week, which runs from Oct. 11 to 17.
Last month, I wrote a blog about Alexa's Angels, a jewelry manufacturer in Windsor, Colo., that was responsible for starting this movement. Part of the movement includes the Web site ShareYourPositity.org. On it is the "National Positivity Databank," where they ask people to post positive comments. When I wrote that blog last month, nearly 2,000 people had posted. Now, it's up to nearly 27,000 posts. Their goal is a positively ambitious 500,000, so I'm doing my part to help them reach their goal by publicizing this great idea.
As part of the celebration this week, the ShareYourPositivity Web site has a Positivity Contract that individuals, communities, businesses or organizations can sign, stating that you're "agreeing to recognize National Share Your Positivity Week." The contract has suggestions for how to celebrate the week, such as throwing a "positivity pizza party," practicing random acts of kindness or volunteering.
In addition, Alexa's Angels partnered with Realities for Children's Keeping Dreams Alive program so, during the week, proceeds from every online purchase of their posi+ivi+y bracelet goes to the program, which "grants wishes to abused children in the social services system."
So, whether it's buying a bracelet, signing the contract or simply leaving a post of positivity, do what you can to help pass on the positive.
