Sustainable Tea at the Tony Awards
Last weekend's Tony Awards have gotten loads of attention ... if only for Bret Michaels', um, scenery incident. But don't feel too sorry for Bret. Just a few hours before the show began, he was hanging out backstage at Radio City Music Hall, being handed a gym membership, new designer sunglasses and a slick new Nespresso machine ... all gratis.
Michaels grabbed all that swag at the awards' pre-show gifting suite, which was sponsored by Lipton Tea. And if the idea of celebs landing loads of free goodies makes you wanna gag on your cup of Earl Grey, keep in mind that Lipton asked every star that stopped by to leave a suggestion how to be more green. For each tip, a donation was made to the Broadway Green Alliance, which focuses on lessening the environmental footprint of New York's theater productions.
Sustainability — or, as they prefer to spell it, sustainabili-TEA — is nothing new for the folks at Lipton. For the last couple years, the company has been working with the Rainforest Alliance to source tea that comes from sustainable farms. While some of its tea is already grown that way, Lipton's goal is to have 100 percent sustainably grown tea by 2015.
So, this summer you can feel good about enjoying a tall glass of iced Lipton tea in the sunshine. Blaring Poison songs is entirely optional.
