Change a Pet's Life Day Is Saturday!
Here at Tonic, we're pretty big animal lovers — I'm sure you've picked up on that by now. And I'm rather partial to adopting animals from shelters or rescues. I've had pretty good luck with it; I'm the proud parent of two pound puppies and a shelter cat, and trust me when I say they've brought me more joy than I've given them. Although, if you come around dinner time, you could easily be fooled by the incredible wagging of tails.
This weekend could be your chance to make a difference in the life of a shelter animal. This Saturday, Jan. 24, is Change a Pet's Life Day, sponsored by Hill's Pet Nutrition. Promoting the campaign is actress (and avid animal lover) Kyra Sedgwick, who said, "Millions of dogs and cats are waiting in shelters. Help them become a part of a loving family like my dog, Paulie."
So, what is Change a Pet's Life Day? Basically, it's a push to encourage more people to open their homes to a pet, and there are a few incentives. First and foremost, the first 10 adoptions at a participating Hill's partner shelter are free on that day. Additionally, new pet owners will be given a starter kit, including Hill's Science Diet pet food as well as tips.
One thing I feel it's important to point out is that there's no such thing as a free pet. While a free adoption might sound great, please keep in mind that only the adoption is free. You'll still have to provide veterinary care and food for your new pet, and, of course, you need to have the time.
That being said, if you've been considering adding a pet to your family, there's no time like the present. Shelters and rescues are feeling the economic crunch, too, so if you can't bring a pet home, consider making a donation. Want to check out participating shelters in your area?
