Citta Chill

Yo, New Yorkers. What are you doing the night of Tues., July 21?

Look no further. We've made plans for you.

Parker Posey and Mathew Modine cordially request your presence among the big-hearted set, people who don't just talk, talk, talk. People who want to learn about what's going on in the world and take action around the causes that move them. (And people who like complimentary cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.)

Citta (Sanskrit for "the compassionate mind") is holding a swanky soiree at A60 on Thompson Street. Focusing primarily on communities in India and Nepal, the organization has been laying the groundwork for sustainable social change for years now. Not ones to rely on handouts, the organization is building hospitals and schools that employ local workers, businesses that give craftswomen and artisans places to turn their skills into livelihoods.

Executive Director Michael Daube went from critical success in the New York art scene to dodging political chaos in Katmandu. He chose to stop talking about change the region needed and decided to create it himself. By building schools and clinics, Citta is supporting doctors and teachers looking for work and providing necessary services to their communities.

There's a suggested donation to attend Tuesday's event, which you'll wanna make once you see where the money goes, believe me. Get all of the details and RSVP here. Those of you not crammed on the island of Manhattan don't need to feel left out. Sponsor a student or at least get informed. Then go spread the word.
