Tonic Mixtape: Cobra Starship + Leighton Meester

Cobra Starship mastermind Gabe Saporta thinks Leighton Meester is the perfect "Good Girl Gone Bad." Fortunately, the Gossip Girl star agrees.

"I had heard that Leighton was working on a record, and I really, really, really wanted to do a song with her," Saporta recently told MTV News on the Lower East Side set of the music video. "[I thought the song] would be perfect for Leighton because it's already kind of her character in Gossip Girl, like the perfect girl with the bad streak."

Meester added, "I thought, 'I need to get on that!' It totally is my sound, too. Really fun to dance to it. Very edgy and cool."

On Monday, the music video (see below) debuted on all the major outlets with "Good Girl Gone Bad" clearly headed for Hitsville. In addition to returning the synthpop rockers to the airwaves, the "Hot Mess" single also provides an early look at Meester's forthcoming music career. She shows her chops sharing vocal duties, and she owns the music video as a speakeasy queen with an ulterior motive. "Good Girl Gone Bad" also features production and songwriting by American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi and Kevin "Let It Rock" Rudolf.

Saporta, who brought smiles last year with the Katy Perry-inspired "I Kissed a Boy," certainly knows how to collaborate. The former Midtown singer launched his current band with the titular "Snakes on a Plane" single featuring Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz and guest vocalists from the Sounds, The Academy Is … and Gym Class Heroes. While that song earned him a slot on the radio, his Meester collaboration might put him in the stars.
