Coming to Boston, a Garden of Cakes
The Boston Flower & Garden Show has been revived, bringing joy to all New England flower-lovers. The show was canceled last year after more than a century of bringing fresh blooms to the city. The show, which will run from March 24 to 28, plans to bring a whole new kind of garden to Boston.
The "Garden of Cakes" exhibit will offer "a tantalizing way to appreciate flowers" by showcasing "edible floral designs from Boston bakeries on the cutting edge of design," according to a press release.
The 16 floral-cake exhibitors will include established bakers and up-and-coming confectioners. Among them will be the famous Montilio's, which has been building elaborate cakes for celebrities and heads-of-state since 1947. The classic Boston bakery provided the cake for John F. and Jacqueline Kennedy's wedding, and has also served up sweets for Queen Elizabeth and Pope John Paul II. Another participant, Truly Jorgs Patisserie Boston, has been a competitor on the Food Network Cake Challenge.
"This former rite of spring, which generations of Bostonians have long cherished, will blossom anew under the theme, A Feast for the Senses, with many of the traditions New Englanders have cherished, along with many exciting new additions," said Carolyn Weston, the former director of the New England Spring Flower Show for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.
Any way you slice it, this is going to be one sweet flower show.
