Conan O'Brien Changes Life of One Peanut Butter-Loving Twitterer
Earlier this week Sarah Killen was just another anonymous American with a Twitter account.
"Vermillion pt.2 is the best song EVER," she wrote in one Tweet Tuesday about the Slipknot song.
"yummmmmmhmmmm Peanut butter," she wrote on Thursday.
But Friday? Suffice it to say everything changed when none other than Conan O'Brien decided to follow the Michigan resident — the one and only person the comedian and former late night host is following on the new Twitter account he launched Feb. 24th.
"I've decided to follow someone at random. She likes peanut butter and gummy dinosaurs. Sarah Killen, your life is about to change," Conan tweeted Friday afternoon — only his 10th tweet.
Turns out Conan wasn't kidding. In less than 24 hours Killen went from having three followers to now more than 10,000 — and Killen admirably used the new attention to raise money for good. She's encouraging followers to donate to her Susan G. Komen Michigan 3-Day for the Cure fundraising page. She plans to walk 60 miles over 3 days to raise money for breast cancer and tweeted early Saturday morning that "so far there has been $970 donated from you guys. Fantastic." As of Saturday, the donations are up to $1200.
Killen's also been tweeting about her upcoming September wedding and says the funnyman is absolutely invited to attend.
"We were only going to invite like twenty people, so if he came, it could be as big as he wanted," she told MTV via Skype. "He could bring anyone he wanted. He could have more people there than I do."
And Killen, an unabashed Conan fan, says she hopes the comedian is back in broadcast soon.
"He definitely needs to start a new show. Definitely. He has no idea what he did for me. Just the one day, this is the most awesome day ever."
